The Atlin Museum is located in a building that once was the Atlin School. Before the schoolhouse was built in 1902, school took place in a tent, drafty old hotel, abandoned hospital building, or a church. In 1902 a brand new school was built and had a wood stove, a basement for recreation and two outhouses. When the one room school got too small new facilities opened in 1968 and the building was moved to its current location on Trainor Ave. It opened as the Atlin Museum in 1972, housing displays and artifacts that portray Atlin's early history.
One of the many artifacts which are displayed in the Museum's backyard is an IRI-A steam-shovel, the only type steam-shovel in North America that is still operation.
